You must have USB-C with DisplayPort or Thunderbolt support.
Not all USB-C are made equal. They are different and that’s very confusing. Here also Thunderbolt comes into play.
USB-C 24 pin connector has 3 communication channels, one standard USB 2 compatible and 2 PCIe lanes (RX and TX separated - 4 in total). And now we have a total mess! Thank you USB Forum!
USB-C might operate in single and dual lane mode. USB 3.1 Gen2 uses only 1 lane while USB 3.2 uses both lanes and achieves maximal speed.
In USB 3.1 Gen 2 mode if Display Port is supported it will allow only 4k 30Hz. To get 4k 60Hz USB 3.2 with dual lanes is required.
In USB 3.2 mode whole cable is used just for display. If connected to USB Hub only USB 2 channel will be supported for peripherals.
